UCP of Greater Suffolk, located in Hauppauge, was responsible for channeling the grant funds. All Island Blower and Sheet Metal Inc. of Bohemia fabricated the stainless steel materials used to construct the sculpture. In discussing his project, Mr. Haussler said, "My idea was to create a symbol frozen in time when we as a nation realized that our world was changed forever." When the exhibit is moved to each new site, representatives from the different organizations will assist in the reconstruction of the sculpture, providing an interactive experience for these participants. The public will also be invited to record memories in a hand-bound, leather journal that will accompany the exhibit. The journal will become a part of the permanent collection housed at the Northport Historical Museum.
Some exciting news for Public sculpture on Long Island:
David worked on a 911 memorial here on Long Island that opened September 11th, 2002. Included in this project were beams from the ninety-second floor of the Twin Towers.
