Long Island Sculptor Unveils
WTC Remembrance Project
SELDEN - Long Island sculptor David T. Haussler will unveil his World Trade Center Remembrance Project on Friday, June 14 at the 22nd Annual Outdoor Sculpture Show to be held at the John T. Mather Memorial Hospital. The sculpture, which depicts the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001, will be exhibited for one month in the Mather Hospital courtyard, after which it will begin a year long exhibit at various hospitals, schools, museums and libraries throughout Suffolk County.
The three-dimensional sculpture, which stands nearly eight feet tall when displayed, was made possible from public funds from the New York Council of the Arts. In Suffolk County the Decentralized Program is administered by the Huntington Arts Council Inc. which is in partnership with the Suffolk Consortium of Arts Councils.

UCP of Greater Suffolk, located in Hauppauge, was responsible for channeling the grant funds. All Island Blower and Sheet Metal Inc. of Bohemia fabricated the stainless steel materials used to construct the sculpture. In discussing his project, Mr. Haussler said, "My idea was to create a symbol frozen in time when we as a nation realized that our world was changed forever." When the exhibit is moved to each new site, representatives from the different organizations will assist in the reconstruction of the sculpture, providing an interactive experience for these participants. The public will also be invited to record memories in a hand-bound, leather journal that will accompany the exhibit. The journal will become a part of the permanent collection housed at the Northport Historical Museum.
Some exciting news for Public sculpture on Long Island:
David is currently working on a 911 memorial here on Long Island that will be open for this September 11th.
Included in this project are beams from the ninety-second floor of the Twin Towers.
